Bespoke tanks: why a standard solution isn’t always the answer
01/06/2026

When choosing an industrial tank, it is common to start with a seemingly simple question: What capacity do we need?

However, in practice, litres are only part of the decision. A stainless steel tank is not simply a storage vessel. In many cases, it plays an active role in the production process and must meet specific requirements regarding working conditions, installation, cleaning, safety and regulations.

Therefore, although standard solutions may be useful in certain cases, they are not always the most suitable option for an industrial installation.

Every process requires a specific solution
The design of an industrial tank must always be based on its actual intended use. Storing water is not the same as storing food products, wine, milk, oils, cosmetics, chemicals or viscous liquids.

Each product may require specific characteristics in terms of materials, internal finishes, agitation systems, connections, drainage, cleaning or temperature control.

In sectors such as the food, chemical, cosmetics or pharmaceutical industries, these differences are particularly important, as the tank must integrate correctly into the process and comply with the relevant technical and health requirements.

Key factors in the design of an industrial tank
Before designing and manufacturing a stainless steel tank, it is essential to analyse various technical aspects:

Product to be contained
The type of product determines the tank’s design. Its density, viscosity, temperature, behaviour during storage and hygiene requirements directly influence the choice of materials, finishes, geometry and fittings.

Operating temperature
Some processes require the product’s temperature to be maintained, increased or reduced. In such cases, the tank may require insulation, heating jackets, coils, cooling systems or specific temperature controls.

Cleaning and maintenance
A good design must facilitate cleaning, access, drainage and inspection. Where the process requires it, it must also allow for integration with CIP systems, reducing downtime and improving operational safety.

Available space and installation
The location of the tank largely determines the final design. The height of the building, access points, space for maintenance, existing connections and the method of installation must be taken into account from the outset of the project.

Integration into the production process
In many cases, the tank must incorporate additional elements such as agitators, weighing systems, level sensors, manhole covers, sanitary connections, special valves, automation or control instrumentation.

Regulations and technical documentation
Depending on the sector, intended use and operating conditions, the tank may require specific specifications regarding design, welding, materials, surface finishes, testing or associated technical documentation.

The limitations of a standard solution
Opting for a standard tank may seem like a quick fix, but it is not always the most efficient solution in the medium to long term.

A solution that does not fit the process correctly can lead to future limitations, make cleaning difficult, reduce the efficiency of the installation or cause integration problems with existing equipment.

Conversely, a bespoke tank allows you to optimise the available space, improve operability, facilitate maintenance and ensure that the equipment meets the customer’s actual needs.

Bespoke stainless steel tanks
At Parcitank, we design and manufacture stainless steel tanks and systems tailored to every process, every space and every requirement.

Our aim is to offer reliable, functional and durable industrial solutions, developed based on a technical analysis of each client’s actual working conditions.

Because in many installations, the best solution is not the standard one, but the one specifically designed to work within your process.
