FARMITANK embarks on a new phase in agri-food innovation
Parcitank is taking part in NUTRIVER+, a new innovation project that will enable the scope of FARMITANK’s vertical farming technology to be extended to new sectors and high value-added applications.

The project aims to investigate the controlled production of crops intended for the extraction of substances with neuroprotective potential and the development of functional juices. To this end, it will explore the possibilities offered by vertical farming as a system for producing plant-based raw materials for the agri-food, nutraceutical, pharmaceutical and health sectors.

FARMITANK’s participation in this initiative marks a new step in the evolution of this technology developed by Parcitank. Its modular system for cultivation under controlled conditions will enable the analysis of new species, the optimisation of production parameters and the study of how to obtain raw materials with specific properties.

A multidisciplinary consortium

NUTRIVER+ is funded under the Castilla-La Mancha Operational Groups call for proposals and brings together a consortium comprising companies, centres of expertise and professionals from various fields:

  • Parcitank
  • Higher Technical School of Agricultural and Forestry Engineering and Biotechnology, University of Castilla-La Mancha
  • GAP Process
  • Natural Environment Engineering
  • Farmacia Hoya Gonzalo

Collaboration between these organisations will enable the project to be approached from different areas of expertise, such as vertical farming, engineering, biotechnology, crop production, agri-food processing and research into functional compounds.

First kick-off meeting
The project team recently held its first working meeting at the GAP Process premises. This meeting served to present the main lines of action, coordinate the participants’ tasks and establish the initial plan.

Following this meeting, a period of collaborative work begins, which will run over the next two and a half years. During this time, the consortium members will work on the various phases of research, cultivation, analysis and development planned within NUTRIVER+.

New applications for vertical farming
The launch of NUTRIVER+ represents a new strategic direction for FARMITANK and demonstrates the potential of vertical farming beyond conventional food production.

Controlling factors such as lighting, temperature, humidity, irrigation and plant nutrition allows growing conditions to be tailored to the needs of each species. This controlled environment can facilitate stable production throughout the year, greater efficiency in the use of resources and the production of consistent, high-quality raw materials.

These characteristics make vertical farming a potential technological platform for producing crops for sectors such as functional foods, nutraceuticals, the pharmaceutical industry and healthcare.

Agricultural Innovation and Diversification in Castilla-La Mancha
With this project, Parcitank reaffirms its commitment to developing technological solutions aimed at making agriculture more efficient, automated and geared towards new market needs.

NUTRIVER+ will also help to promote research into new crops, drive agri-food innovation and explore opportunities for diversification within the agricultural sector of Castilla-La Mancha.

The official NUTRIVER+ profile will be launched shortly, through which the project’s main progress, results and updates will be shared.

At Parcitank, we will keep you informed about the progress of this new initiative and about FARMITANK’s role in developing vertical farming solutions for high value-added sectors.
