The volume of DOC Rioja wine marketed is the same as 20 years ago
It sold a total of 238.2 million litres of wine last year, almost the same amount as in 2003, when it reached 236.3 million litres.

The DOC Rioja, a leader in the Spanish wine sector, has grown since 2003, reaching an all-time high in 2015 with total sales of 284 million litres, and has maintained similar figures for the following two years. Last year, sales fell again to 238,263,915 litres amid declining international wine consumption, high inflation and new sources of geopolitical tension.
As for export statistics, the report drawn up by the Logroño Control Board highlights the difficult global situation "characterised by production costs, economic stagnation in many countries and armed conflicts".
